Electric Vehicles are the talk of the town with every automobile manufacturer joining the e-mobility wagon in India. While electric two & three-wheelers are leading the race, electric cars still have a lot of catching up to do. India’s electric car market is all set for an exciting chapter in 2024, with many cars from different automakers slated for launch. Here, EVJoints lists out the 5 most anticipated electric cars of the coming year:

Hyundai Creta EV:

The Creta is Hyundai’s most successful product in India. And now the company is working on the electric variant of the SUV. Hyundai is expected to launch the Creta EV in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Hyundai Creta EV

Hyundai India is likely to give the Creta EV some unique design elements to distinguish it from its petrol/diesel counterpart, but on the whole, it is expected to look similar. Experts say the Creta EV might have specifications similar to the Kona Electric, i.e. a 39.2 kWh battery which gives a range of 452 km. It is expected to be priced between Rs 20-25 lakh.

Upon launch, the electric variant of Creta will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV and Maruti’s upcoming eVX.

Mahindra XUV.e8:

The electric version of the popular Mahindra XUV700 will be known as the XUV.e8. The electric SUV is likely to come in two battery options: 60 kWh & a long range 80 kWh. The e.8 will be launched in the second half of 2024.

Mahindra XUV.e8

Prices expected to start from Rs 30 lakh. The car will compete with BYD Atto 3.

Tata Curvv EV:

Tata Motors is ready to exert more dominance in India’s electric car market with its upcoming SUV coupe called the Curvv.

Tata Curvv EV

The crossover is likely to be positioned above the Nexon EV in Tata’s EV portfolio. The specifications have been kept under wraps, but experts say the numbers may be similar to the Nexon EV’s long range variant.

There are talks that the Curvv might be renamed as the Frest.

Skoda Enyaq iV:

Skoda India’s first electric car will be the Enyaq iV. It is expected to be launched sometime in mid-2024. The electric SUV will sport a 77 kWh battery pack which will offer a range of 500 km.

Skoda Enyaq iV

The Enyaq iV will be imported as a CBU. The EV will be similar to the Skoda Kodiaq in size.

BYD Seal:

BYD India has already announced that its third offering will be the electric sedan called the Seal. The company had showcased the Seal at the 2023 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The electric car is expected to be launched around mid-2024.

BYD Seal

Outside India, the Seal comes in two battery options: 61.4 kWh (510 km range) & 82.5 kWh (700 km range). BYD will be targeting a price of around Rs 50 lakh for the electric sedan.

Special Mentions:

Tata Punch EV

A much-anticipated electric car in the Indian market is the Punch EV. Tata Motors is expected to launch the car at around New Year’s.

Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors will launch its 4th electric car (after Tigor, Nexon & Tiago EV) in the form of Punch EV. The subcompact SUV will compete with Citroen eC3.

Test mules of the Punch EV have been spied testing a few times on roads, but its official specifications are still not known. The car will look similar to its ICE counterpart, but will get an EV-specific grille. The EV can be priced around Rs 12 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki eVX:

Maruti Suzuki eVX

Another big name which can totally change the landscape of the Indian electric car market is the Suzuki eVX. This electric SUV will be Maruti’s first electric car in the country. However it is expected to launch in early 2025. But with the electric car scene heating up rapidly in India, it won’t be a surprise if Maruti Suzuki hastens up the eVX’s launch.

The eVX will come with a 60 kWh battery pack which gives a range of 550 km.

Conclusion:

With launches from Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki (highly likely) and more, the electric car market will be buzzing next year. More launches mean more choices for consumers and competitive prices. It will be interesting to see how Tata Motors tries to retain its supremacy, how its rivalry with Mahindra plays out in the EV market, how Maruti & Hyundai face-off in the electric mobility arena. A lot to look out for. Keep watching this space.
