Honda Enters Indian Electric Scooter Market with Activa & QC1

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd (HMSI) launched its first electric offerings at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. With the Honda Activa e: and the Honda QC1, the company has finally entered the very competitive Indian electric scooter market. In this blog, EVJoints brings you all details about the two new electric scooters including their battery capacity, charging options and prices.

Honda Activa Electric:

Honda Activa is a household name in the Indian two-wheeler market and Honda had always wanted to capitalize on this branding when entering the Indian EV market. The Honda Activa EV has been branded ‘Honda Activa e:’, and it comes with dual 1.5 kWh swappable batteries which offer a range of 102 km. The Activa e: can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/hr in 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 80 km/hr.

The electric scooter features Honda’s swappable battery tech ‘e: SWAP’. You can’t charge the batteries at home. They can only be swapped at Honda e:SWAP battery swapping stations. The company plans to set-up a widespread network of swapping stations for this purpose.

The electric variant of Activa will first be rolled-out in Bengaluru in February 2025, followed by Delhi & Mumbai in April 2025. Bengaluru already has around 85 battery swapping stations. Honda plans to increase this to 250 stations in the city by 2026, aiming to have 1 station within every 5 km. The company is also setting-up a swapping network in Delhi & Mumbai.

Due to the swappable batteries, the underseat storage is very low. The two batteries take up almost 90% of the underseat space. Basic features of the Activa e: include all LED lights, diamond-cut alloy wheels, smart key, 7-inch TFT screen with night mode and 3 riding modes. The Honda Activa e: electric scooter has been priced at Rs 1.17 lakh.

Along with the Activa EV, Honda has also launched a more affordable electric scooter named ‘QC1’. The new Honda QC1 electric scooter features a very minimalistic design.

The QC1 comes with a 1.5 kWh fixed battery which offers a range of 80 km. The electric scooter will come with a 330W EV charger, which can charge the battery from 0-80% in 4 hours 30 minutes, and from 0-100% in 6 hours 50 minutes.

Unlike the Activa e:, the QC1 comes with 26 litres of underseat storage. The scooter has a top speed of 50 km/hr. Basic features include all LED lights, 2 riding modes, 5-inch LCD display and the charger that comes with the scooter has an auto-cut feature. The Honda QC1 will initially be available in 6 cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad & Chandigarh. It has been priced at Rs 90,000.

Conclusion:

Honda Activa has become a big brand over the years and is synonymous with gearless scooters in India, much like how Hero Honda was with motorcycles and Maruti with cars. The petrol Activa has made a huge market for itself. Will the electric Activa be able to replicate the same story? Or will it be a tough ride against the likes of Ola Electric, Chetak, Ather, etc? We’ll know the answers only when the deliveries begin.
