Plus, latest updates on Kia Syros EV, ChargeZone EV charging stations, and India’s rising EV sales numbers. Let’s get started.

TVS launches Orbiter EV scooter at ₹99,900 with 158 km range

TVS has launched the newest addition to its electric scooter portfolio, the Orbiter, priced at Rs 99,900. Unlike the iQube and its multiple variants, the Orbiter has been launched with a single 3.1 kWh battery pack which offers a range of 158 km.

Features include 34 L underseat storage (large enough for 2 helmets), reverse parking assist, cruise control, hill hold assist, front disc brake and 6 colour options. The TVS Orbiter joins the TVS iQube & TVS X in the Chennai-based automaker’s electric scooter lineup.

Key Takeaway: Orbiter strengthens TVS’s mass-market EV strategy. Good price-to-range balance makes it an attractive choice.

Kia Syros EV spotted testing at an EV charging station ahead of India launch

Kia Syros EV made its 1st appearance on Indian roads testing at an EV charging station in Kochi (Kerala). Official specifications of the Syros EV are yet to be revealed. As far as exteriors are concerned, minimal EV-specific design changes are expected such as a closed-off grill, a charging port at the front and EV badging. The overall dimensions of the upcoming EV will remain same as its fuel-powered variant.

Reports suggest that the electric compact SUV might share its powertrain with its cousin, the Hyundai Inster EV (which is also expected to be launched in India soon). Globally, the Inster EV is available in 2 NMC battery pack options: 42 kWh & 49 kWh (delivering a claimed range of 300 km & 355 km respectively).

Key Takeaway: Kia’s entry in the electric compact SUV market will heat up competition in the sub-Rs 15 lakh segment.

ChargeZone & SBI come together for EV charging station financing scheme under EV Mitra scheme

ChargeZone has signed an agreement with State Bank of India under the EV Mitra scheme. This partnership is aimed at helping individuals, businesses & institutions to set-up EV charging stations through streamlined financing support under ChargeZone’s DoCo scheme (Dealer Owned, Company Operated).

As part of the scheme, loans ranging from Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 10 crores will be offered, with flexible repayment options. Under the EV Mitra scheme, ChargeZone will offer its popular DoCo scheme to set-up EV charging stations under the co-investment (full/partial) model.

Mumbai-Pune Expressway to get more EV charging stations by 2025-end

Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will install 8 more EV charging stations on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway by the end of this year. At present, there are only 5 EV charging stations along the 94.5 km expressway, which reports say are insufficient considering the traffic. This step seeks to support the increasing number of EVs along the highway and address range anxiety, a key challenge for long-distance EV travel. A study is in progress to determine locations for the new stations so that they are well-distributed along the highway.

Key Takeaway: A much-needed boost for long-distance EV travel. This decision will ease range anxiety on one of India’s busiest highways.
