In the electrifying dawn of India’s EV revolution, Mahindra has launched a 7-seater electric SUV, the XEV 9S. This is the automaker’s 4th electric car after the XUV400 EV, BE 6 & XEV 9e.

The Mahindra XEV 9S is positioned as a more spacious, family-oriented counterpart to the 5-seater XEV 9e, built on the same INGLO platform but with a longer wheelbase for enhanced third-row comfort. In this blog, EVJoints brings you an in-depth analysis of Mahindra XEV 9S’s battery, range, charging options and lots more:

Mahindra XEV 9S battery capacity & range:

Unlike its siblings, the XEV 9S gets the option of three battery packs. Apart from the same 59 kWh & 79 kWh battery options seen on the BE 6 & XEV 9e, the XEV 9S features a new 70 kWh battery configuration.

The 59 kWh battery variant gives a range of 521 km, the 70 kWh variant gives a range of 600 km and the 79 kWh gives 679 km. The battery type XEV 9S comes with is LFP.

Battery Warranty:

Mahindra is offering lifetime warranty on the battery pack (for the 1st owner). In case there is an ownership transfer, the warranty on the battery will be 10 years or 2,00,000 km from the vehicle delivery date.

Mahindra XEV 9S charging time:

There are two options when it comes to AC wallbox chargers: 7.2 kW & 11.2 kW. They aren’t included in the cost of the car, and are priced at Rs 50,000 & Rs 75,000 respectively.

The 59 kWh battery variant charges from 0-100% in 6 hours using a 11.2 kW AC home charger, and in 8.7 hours using a 7.2 kW charger. The same two chargers take 7 hours & 10.2 hours to juice up the 70 kWh battery variant, and 8 hours & 11.7 hours to fully charge the 79 kWh variant. Here’s the guide to install home chargers

As far as DC fast charging is concerned, the 59 kWh battery variant takes 20 minutes to go from 20-80% at a 140 kW DC fast-charging station. The 70 kWh variant takes 20 minutes to go from 20-80% at a 160 kW fast EV charging station. The 79 kWh variant does the same in 20 minutes at a 180 kW fast-charging station.

Mahindra is in the process of developing a superfast EV charging network under the name ‘CHARGE_iN’. There are plans to to set-up 1000 fast EV charging points by the end of 2027.

The car’s charging port is placed on the rear left side.

Features, Interiors & Exteriors:

The Mahindra XEV 9S comes with a shape similar to the conventional fuel-powered XUV 700.

Inside, the car features a three-screen setup as standard.

Panoramic sunroof also comes as standard. It comes with the same two-spoke steering wheel as the XEV 9e. You get 527 L of boot space with the third row folded. There’s also a 150 L frunk under the bonnet of the car.

As far as ADAS is concerned, the XEV 6S comes with advanced Level 2 ADAS (also called Level 2+) featuring camera, radars & sensors. For more insights about ADAS, visit How ADAS makes your electric car smarter & safer?

Other notable touches include aerodynamic alloy wheels, flush door handles, roof rails, shark-fin antenna and Mahindra’s EV badging on the front.

Pricing:

Prices for the XEV 9S start from Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards for the base-spec ‘Pack One Above’ 59 kWh battery variant. Top-end pricing with the bigger battery pack goes all the way up to Rs 29.45 lakh.

Test drives for the XEV 9S starts on December 5, and bookings open on January 14, followed by deliveries from January 23, 2026.

Competitors:

The Mahindra XEV 9S will compete directly with Kia Carens Clavis EV & BYD eMax 7 in India’s three-row electric car market. The XEV 9S is designed as a stylish SUV and in contrast, the Carens Clavis EV & eMax 7 are MPV styled. While not identical in design, their overlapping pricing, family-oriented packaging and target audience make them natural rivals in a segment with limited options.

Conclusion:

The Mahindra XEV 9S can be a game-changer for the Indian EV market. It packs premium thrills with everyday utility for growing households. The XEV 9S has also made a statement that big, bold & green can coexist on Indian roads.
