The age-old rivalry between Tata Motors & Mahindra has a new chapter: Electric Cars. While Tata Motors is way ahead of Mahindra in the electric car sector, the latter has made a smashing entry in the segment and has grand plans for the future. India’s best-selling electric car, the Tata Nexon EV is being challenged by Mahindra’s only e-car in the market, the XUV400 EV. Here we’ll see a comparison between Nexon EV’s long-range variant ‘Nexon EV Max’ and the Mahindra XUV400 EV.

Tata Nexon EV Max

Tata Nexon EV Max:

The Nexon EV Max is the long range version of the company’s best-selling electric car, the Nexon EV. It features a 40.5 kWh battery pack which gives a range of 453 km. The electric SUV goes from 0-100 km/hr in under 9 seconds. Its top speed is 140 km/hr. With a 50 kW DC fast-charger, the Nexon EV Max can be charged from 0-80% in 56 minutes.

Consumers can visit Tata Power EV charging stations at Tata Motors showrooms to fast-charge their car. The EV can be charged at other charging stations as well. The EV can be charged slowly via AC charging at home or rapidly using a CCS2 connector for both AC and DC charging at charging points.

Tata Motors uses LFP battery cell chemistry.

The Nexon EV Max comes with MRF tyres.

Features include a 10.25-inch Harman infotainment touchscreen, HD rear view camera, all four disc brakes, electric sunroof, hill descent control and smartwatch integration. The electric SUV has a 350 litre boot space (expandable to 690 litres). The Nexon EV Max has two-tone black & beige interiors. It comes in three colour options: white, teal and grey.

Consumers can connect their EVs with their smartphone and smartwatch using the Tata Motors ZConnect app which allows them to remotely lock & unlock their car, remotely switching on the car AC and shares insights related to the EV’s charging status.

The electric SUV has a 350 litre boot space (expandable to 690 litres). The Nexon EV Max has two-tone black & beige interiors. It comes in three colour options: white, teal and grey.

Tata Motors is giving a warranty of 8 years on the battery & motor.

Prices start at Rs 16.49 lakh and go up till Rs 19.29 lakh.

Mahindra XUV400 EV:

The XUV400 EV is Mahindra’s first electric car. The company received over 10,000 bookings for the electric SUV upon launch.

The XUV400 comes with two battery options: 34.5 kWh & 39.4 kWh, which offer a range of 375 km & 456 km respectively. It goes from 0-100 km/hr in 8.3 seconds. The top speed is 160 km/hr. With a 50 kW DC fast-charger, the XUV400 can be charged from 0-80% in 50 minutes.

Mahindra XUV400 EV

Mahindra showrooms have Charge Zone charging stations where XUV400 owners can go to get fast-charging. The EV can be fast-charged at other EV charging stations, including those equipped with a CCS2 connector that supports both AC and DC charging capabilities.

Mahindra uses NMC battery cell chemistry.

The XUV400 EV comes with Apollo tyres.

Features include electric sunroof, 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, 6 airbags, all four disc brakes and smartwatch connectivity. The car has a 378 litre boot space.

The XUV400 can be connected to your smartphone & smartwatch via the Blue Sense+ mobile app which gives the EV user insights about the car’s performance, trip distance, charging time etc.

The XUV400 EV has all-black interiors. The 34.5 kWh variant comes in 5 colour options. The 39.4 kWh variant comes in 10 colour options.

The EV comes with an 8 year warranty on battery & motor.

Prices start at Rs 15.99 lakh.

Tata Nexon EV Max vs Mahindra XUV400 EV comparison

Both the electric cars have more or less similar specs. The Nexon EV Max scores some brownie points courtesy the bigger and better infotainment touchscreen. Very little separates the two cars and all our experts can say is ‘go to a showroom, see the interiors & exteriors for yourself, go for a test drive and choose what grabs your attention’.
