Renting electric scooters is becoming increasingly popular in India for urban commuting, short trips & last-mile delivery, offering a cost-effective & eco-friendly alternative.
Purchasing an electric scooter requires a significant upfront investment. There are no upfront costs when renting an electric scooter. You simply pay for the time you use it, which is convenient for occasional users. Companies offer scooters on rent by the hour, suitable for short trips and quick commutes. Some companies offer scooters on rent for longer durations (daily, weekly or monthly), allowing for more flexibility and potentially lower per day costs.
The average rent for electric scooters in India ranges from Rs 100-300 per day. This translates to around Rs 2000-6000 per month. Hourly rates can vary, but are generally in the Rs 40-70 range. Weekly rentals can be between Rs 1650-2400, depending on the electric scooter model & range.
Rental services offer convenient on-demand access to electric scooters, allowing users to rent and return them as needed through their apps.
In this blog, EVJoints answers some important questions related to renting an electric scooter:
Things to consider before renting an electric scooter:
- Know your purpose: The first step is to know your purpose for renting the scooter. Is it for daily commute, for sightseeing or are you a gig worker looking for a cost-effective mode of transport?
- Evaluate range needs: Battery range is a vital factor when renting an electric scooter. How far will the scooter take you on a single charge? Does the rental service offer EV charging or battery swapping facility? A longer battery range is ideal for full day riding.
- Choosing the rental company/app: Rental services typically offer various plans to suit different budgets. Compare hourly/daily rates, or for relatively long-term usage, check subscription plans. Choose the most cost-effective platform. More on EV rental platforms below.
- Check rental requirements: Most rental service companies require basic paperwork like Aadhar, driving license, etc. There may be different requirements for electric two-wheelers with top speed more than or less than 25 km/hr. You may also be asked for a security deposit.
- Inspect the electric scooter: It’s always a good idea to inspect and test ride the electric scooter before renting it. This will give you an idea of its condition and its handling.
- Understand the rental agreement: Most rental services require a security deposit, which is refundable upon the return of the scooter. Also check out the penalties imposed in case the vehicle is damaged while on rent.
