When electric two-wheelers started coming around, they were humble vehicles developed to travel short distances on urban streets. However, things are changing rapidly when it comes to electric motorcycles. Looking at the machines showcased by Ola Electric and a few other EV startups, it is evident that manufacturers want to improve performance and range in the future. The New Year will have everything from high-performance electric sportsbikes to light city commuters.

Here, EVJoints brings the 5 most anticipated electric motorcycles to hit the streets in 2024:

Ola Diamondhead

The Diamondhead is an upcoming electric sports bike from the house of Ola Electric. It features a futuristic diamond-shaped head with an LED strip running across it.

Ola Diamondhead

Ola Electric showcased 4 electric bikes at a mega event on Independence Day. Of the four motorcycles, the Diamondhead seemed the most radical. Shortly afterwards, the company showcased the Diamondhead again at MotoGP Bharat 2023.

The Diamondhead is likely to be launched towards the end of 2024 and will compete with the only other electric sportsbike in India, the Ultraviolette F77.

Tork Kratos X

Pune-based EV startup Tork Motors unveiled the Kratos X at the 2023 Auto Expo.

Tork Kratos X

The Kratos X sits above the Kratos R and has higher torque than the ‘R’, which results in faster acceleration. The ‘X’ also delivers higher power output and supports fast-charging. It also comes with a new ‘Furiously Fast’ (FF) mode.

The upcoming bike will get a blacked-out battery casing and newly-designed side panels.

Ola Cruiser

Apart from the above mentioned Diamondhead, the Ola Cruiser electric motorcycle has caught the eye of India’s bike gurus & enthusiasts. Like typical cruiser motorcycles, this one too gets a low stance. India’s most popular cruiser bikes have been Bajaj Eliminator, Bajaj Avenger and Yamaha Enticer.

Upon launch, the Ola Cruiser will take on Komaki Ranger, which is India’s 1st electric cruiser bike, Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Jawa 42 Bobber.

Orxa Mantis

Bengaluru-based Orxa Energies enters this list with its flagship Mantis. This performance bike comes with an 8.9 kWh battery pack which gives a range of 221 km. The claimed top speed is 135 km/hr. The frame of the Mantis is constructed from aerospace-grade aluminium alloy.

The motorcycle will come with a regular charger which can charge up to 80% in 5 hours. Customers can upgrade to a fast charger as well, which will charge 80% in 2 hours 30 minutes.

Prices start at Rs 3.60 lakh. Bookings are open and deliveries will start from April 2024.

Kabira KM5000

Kabira Mobility is a Goa-based electric bike startup which is planning to launch its KM5000 electric motorcycle in early 2024.

Kabira KM5000

The Kabira KM 5000 will feature an 11.6 kWh LFP battery which will give a range of 344 km. The bike will support fast-charging. It will come with two charging options: a high-speed boost charger (up to 80% charging in less than 2 hours) and a standard charger (for overnight charging).

The company claims the KM5000 will be India’s fastest electric bike with a claimed top speed of 188 km/hr. Prices are expected to start from Rs 3.15 lakh.

Special Mention:

Kinetic E-Luna

The iconic Kinetic Luna moped is set to make a comeback in an electric avatar and will be named ‘E-Luna’ upon arrival.

Kinetic E-Luna

Similar to Bajaj Auto, which banked on nostalgia with the Chetak electric scooter and the upcoming electric version of the Sunny, Kinetic too is looking to attract customers with the electric Luna. At its peak, the Kinetic Luna commanded a whopping 95% market share in the country’s moped segment.

Kinetic may target the last mile delivery segment with the E-Luna.

Conclusion:

Electric motorcycles are today where electric cars were five years ago. Companies are trying to carve a niche for themselves by offering more innovative features and a better range.

Electric bikes are popular among millennials in western countries. And with electric scooters gaining acceptance amongst people of all age groups in India, its only a matter of time before people put confidence in e-motorcycles.
