India\u2019s electric vehicle industry is growing at a satisfactory pace. Annual EV sales figures in India have touched 1.2 million, up 174% year-on-year, in the first three quarters of CY2023. Electric two-wheelers (mostly scooters) accounted for more than 60% of total EVs sold. The share of electric three-wheelers<\/a> stood at 29%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Uttar Pradesh:<\/b><\/p>\n

With 4,14,978 EVs registered in the state, Uttar Pradesh is at the top of the table in EV sales. UP & Maharashtra shared the top spot with each having a share of 14% in Q42022. But in Q12023, UP overtook Maharashtra. The main reason why UP leads the pack is due to the widespread adoption of e-rickshaws in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Electric<\/p>\n

Electric rickshaws (both passenger & cargo), accounted for 85% of overall EV sales in the state in 2022. Electric two-wheelers come a distant second with 14% share. Electric cars have less than 1% share.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maharashtra:<\/b><\/p>\n

After UP comes Maharashtra. The state reported a 208% year-on-year growth in EV registrations in 2022-23. The EV sales in the state are led by two-wheelers which make up 86% of all sales. As per data from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Maharashtra has the highest number of public EV charging stations<\/a> in India. The state government also has its own EV charging app<\/a> \u2018PowerUpEV\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maharashtra ranks no.1 in India in electric car sales.<\/span><\/p>\n

Karnataka:<\/b><\/p>\n

The southern state of Karnataka comes in at number 3. Electric two-wheelers account for 91% of the total EV sales in the state. Electric three-wheelers and cars account for 5% and 4% respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

Karnataka has the 3<\/span>rd<\/span> highest number of public charging stations in the country. State capital Bengaluru\u2019s power supply utility BESCOM launched an EV charging app called \u2018EV Mithra\u2019 to help residents locate EV charging stations in the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tamil Nadu:<\/b><\/p>\n

Tamil Nadu is 4<\/span>th<\/span> in EV sales. A big portion of EVs sold in the state are electric scooters and high-priced three-wheelers (not e-rickshaws). Tamil Nadu\u2019s EV sales consist of higher value products in which local companies have a stronger presence. The state\u2019s EV policy includes subsidies for locally-made products. 40% of all EVs sold in the country are made in TN.<\/span><\/p>\n

TN has the 4<\/span>th<\/span> highest no. of EV charging stations in India.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gujarat:<\/b><\/p>\n

The western Indian state of Gujarat stands at the 5<\/span>th<\/span> position with respect to EV registrations. The state registered its highest annual EV sales growth in 2022 with a 606% jump year-on-year. Electric two-wheelers make up 93% of total EVs sold in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gujarat was a late entrant in India\u2019s e-mobility race, but has shown great pace in EV adoption and expanding charging infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n
