On 6th June, I went on a road trip from Faridabad to Sahastradhara in Dehradun along with my family. We were five adults and two kids with a completely packed trunk that had five strolley bags and a portable charging kit.

From Faridabad to Dehradun

I started the journey with a full charge at home in Faridabad. The first leg of the drive was to Devrana Mansurpur Midway, which is around 121 kilometres. By the time I reached there, the battery had dropped to 53 percent. I used a 60 kilowatt DC charger at a Hyundai outlet powered by Statiq. The car was charged back to 100 percent in about an hour. The charging load averaged around 20 kilowatt during the session.

Starting point: Faridabad (100% battery at residence)

First leg: 121 km to Devrana Mansurpur Midway

Battery left: 53%

Charger used: 60 kW DC charger at Hyundai (powered by Statiq)

Charging time: 1 hour

Battery after charge: Back to 100%

From there I continued the next stretch to Sahastradhara in Dehradun which was around 160 kilometres. I used the MG portable charger overnight and got the car charged back to 100 percent by morning. At that point the battery had come down to 33 percent. I stopped at an Adani fast charger at Badheri. In just 30 minutes I managed to charge up to 72 percent. From there I drove back to Faridabad which was about 151 kilometres. I reached home with 19 percent battery still remaining.

First leg: 131 km from Sahastradhara to Badheri

Battery left: 33%

Charging stop: Adani fast charger at Badheri

Battery topped up to: 72% in 30 minutes

Final leg: 151 km to Faridabad

Battery left on arrival: 19%

While coming back there was heavy bumper to bumper traffic from Sahastradhara to Haridwar. It took nearly five hours to cover that section because it was a Sunday.

The total charging cost for the return journey was around ₹400. For the entire trip including all charging, the cost came to about ₹1600.

Charging Summary of The Trip

Total driving distance: 610–613 km (including city use)

Charging cost at the resort: ₹350

Charging cost while returning: ₹400

Total charging cost for the trip: ₹1600

Battery capacity: 38 kWh

Estimated overall efficiency: ~6.4 km per kWh

Total energy used: ~90–95 kWh

My Take Away

In total I covered around 610 kilometres which includes city driving in Dehradun. The MG Windsor EV has a 38 kilowatt hour battery and the overall efficiency I observed was roughly between 6 and 6.5 kilometres per kilowatt hour. This was under full load and mixed driving conditions including hilly terrain and traffic.

This trip gave me confidence that even a compact electric car like the MG Windsor EV can handle long routes comfortably. With a little planning and the right tools such as a personal charging kit it becomes easy to manage charging on the go. If anyone is wondering whether EVs can take on intercity travel the answer is a clear yes.

Would you like to share your EV story too?
