The Indian electric car market is charging up with two contenders which represent the pinnacle of their manufacturer’s EV ambitions: the Mahindra XEV 9e & the Tata Harrier EV. Both electric SUVs offer impressive range, cutting-edge technology and premium features tailored for Indian roads. While the Mahindra XEV 9e comes with a futuristic design, the Tata Harrier EV counters with rugged practicality & all-wheel drive (AWD) capability.

Battery & Range:
The Mahindra XEV 9e comes in two battery options: 59 kWh & 79 kWh. The 59 kWh variant gives a range of 542 km, while the 79 kWh gives a range of 656 km.
The Tata Harrier EV also comes in two battery options: 65 kWh & 75 kWh. The 65 kWh variant gives a range of 538 km. The 75 kWh RWD & AWD variants offer slightly higher ranges of 627 km & 622 km respectively.
EV Charging:
Both cars are compatible with CCS2 DC fast chargers.
The 59 kWh variant of Mahindra XEV 9e goes from 20%-80% in 20 minutes (at 140 kW DC fast EV charging station). The 79 kWh variant goes from 20%-80% in 20 minutes (at 180 kW fast charger).
The 65 kWh variant of Tata Harrier EV goes from 20%-80% in 25 minutes (at 100 kW DC fast EV charging station). The 75 kWh variant goes from 20%-80% in 25 minutes (at 120 kW fast charger).
With a 7.2 kW AC home charger, the 59 kWh variant of the XEV 9e takes 8.7 hours to charge from 0%-100%, while the 79 kWh variant takes 11.7 hrs.
With a 7.2 kW AC home charger, the 65 kWh variant of Harrier EV takes 9.3 hours to charge from 10%-100%, while the 75 kWh variant takes 10.7 hours.
Battery Warranty:
Both Mahindra & Tata Motors offer a lifetime warranty on their EV’s battery (for the first buyer). In case of an ownership transfer, the battery warranty for both cars will be 10 years from the date of first registration.
Design:
The Mahindra XEV 9e comes with a futuristic design that has shaken India’s electric SUV segment. The car has a head-turning presence on the road.

The Harrier EV is almost similar in design as the fuel-powered Harrier. It features a practical, no-frills exterior design.
EV Architecture:
The XEV 9e is built-on Mahindra’s scalable & modular INGLO platform. All of Mahindra’s upcoming electric cars will be based on this INGLO skateboard architecture which has been co-developed by Mahindra & Volkswagen.
Tata Motors has upgraded its acti.ev architecture to acti.ev+, which underpins the Harrier EV.
Drivetrain:
The Mahindra XEV 9e comes in rear-wheel drive (RWD) drivetrain.
The Tata Harrier.ev is offered with two drivetrain options: RWD & all-wheel drive (AWD). Harrier’s all wheel drive (AWD) powertrain has been branded by Tata Motors as QWD (quad-wheel drive).

Pricing:
The XEV 9e is available in three variants: Pack 1, Pack 2 & Pack 3. Pack 1 comes with the 59 kWh battery and is priced at Rs 21.90 lakh. Pack 2 also comes with the 59 kWh battery and is priced at Rs 24.90 lakh. Pack 3 comes in two battery options. The 59 kWh Pack 3 is priced at Rs 27.90 lakh and the 79 kWh Pack 3 is priced at Rs 30.50 lakh.
Prices for Harrier EV’s RWD 65 kWh variant starts from Rs 21.49 lakh. Prices for the RWD 75 kWh variant starts from Rs 24.99 lakh. And prices for the AWD 75 kWh variant starts from Rs 28.99 lakh.
