Tata Punch EV is a subcompact electric SUV from Tata Motors. The automaker has recently launched its facelift with a fresher design, newer features and an improved range.

The Punch EV is a very ‘capable’ car in all aspects. The car is great for city driving as well as on the highway. It strikes a good balance between power & efficiency. In this blog, EVJoints brings you an in-depth dive into the facelifted Punch EV’s battery, range, charging options & features.

Battery & Range:

The new Tata Punch EV comes in 2 battery options: 30 kWh & 40 kWh. The 30 kWh variant offers a range of 375 km and the 40 kWh variant offers a range of 468 km. The earlier Punch EV came with 25 kWh & 35 kWh battery packs.

The batteries feature LFP chemistry, and the 40 kWh variant comes with prismatic cells.

Battery Warranty:

The 30 kWh battery variant comes with a warranty of 8 years and the 40 kWh with a ‘lifetime’ warranty of 15 years (limited to the 1st owner).

Charging:

With a 7.2 kW AC charger, the Punch 30 kWh battery variant can charge from 10-100% in 4.5 hours and the 40 kWh variant can do the same in 5.3 hours.

The car now supports up to 65 kW DC fast-charging (as compared to the previous 50 kW fast-charging). This enables quicker charging top-ups compared to the previous model. Both variants can charge from 10-80% in 30 minutes (compared to 56 minutes in the outgoing model).

Compatible EV Charging Connectors:

All Tata Punch EV variants are compatible with 3.3 kW & 7.2 kW AC chargers for home charging & public charging. For faster charging during long trips, you can use CCS & CCS2 DC fast-chargers at public EV charging stations.

Pricing:

Prices for the new Punch EV (30 kWh) starts from Rs 9.69 lakh and for the 40 kWh variant starts from Rs 10.89 lakh. The base model of the 30 kWh facelifted Punch EV is Rs 30,000 cheaper than its previous model. For the 40 kWh variant, it is Rs 1.80 lakhs cheaper than the previous model.

Also, customers can now buy the Tata Punch EV with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, under which prices start at just Rs 6.49 lakh (for the 30 kWh base variant) + Rs 2.6 per kilometre driven. For instance, if you drive 1000 km per month, the battery subscription cost will be Rs 2600 per month.

Tata Punch EV Variants:

Features:

The Tata Punch EV, positioned below the Tata Harrier EV, Tata Curvv EV & Tata Nexon EV, retains its SUV traits. In the front, the connected LED light bar seen on the previous model has been replaced with LED DRLs positioned at the outer edges. At the rear, it now features connected LED tail lamps and a revised bumper.

Inside, the new Punch feels familiar. It retains the dual-tone interior theme, two-spoke smart steering wheel, touch-based climate controls and twin 10.25 inch displays for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Other features include front charging port, air purifier, rain-sensing wipers, 360 degree camera system, 6 airbags, all disc brakes and electric sunroof. New features include over-the-air (OTA) update capability, voice commands in 6 languages and smartwatch connectivity.

The Punch EV is Tata’s 1st electric car based on its new advanced architecture ‘acti.ev’. Read more in detail on Tata Motor’s acti.ev architecture.

Conclusion:

The Punch EV facelift is an upgrade that addresses consumer expectations around range & charging speed.

With bigger battery options and faster charging, the new Punch EV consolidates its position as one of the most practical and city-friendly electric cars in its price band.
