BluSmart Mobility is an all-electric cab company headquartered in Gurugram (Haryana). The company was founded in 2019 by Anmol Jaggi (Chairman, BSE-listed Gensol Engineering), Punit Goyal (Co-founded PLG Clean Energy Projects with Suzlon), Puneet Jaggi (Director, Gensol Engineering) & Tushar Garg (Previously worked for Uber India).
BluSmart provides app-based cab services (similar to Ola & Uber), cabs on hourly rental basis and airport pick-up & drop services. Instead of operating like a ride aggregator, BluSmart leases, owns and operates EVs, thus removing the burden of car ownership from drivers.
The company’s services are available in Delhi-NCR & Bengaluru and BluSmart claims to have the largest network of EV charging stations in Delhi-NCR. Jio-BP has set up this large-scale charging network. These EV charging stations are capable of hosting 30 electric cabs at each station (known as a Superhub). All this makes BluSmart India’s largest integrated full-stack EV ecosystem solutions provider!
The company initially worked as a vendor for Uber India. Its fleet of 70 cars ran on Uber’s platform. Later the company started its own operations.
BluSmart’s entry into the market came at a time when Ola & Uber have dominated the app-based cab industry. Experts label the two company’s hold on the Indian market as a duopoly, much like Pepsi & Coca-Cola in the beverage sector. But the two company’s customer satisfaction has gone down recently due to a number of reasons, including drivers cancelling rides & surge prices.
This is where BluSmart comes to the rescue. Apart from being eco-friendly, BluSmart promises zero cancellations & no surge fee!
The company has a dedicated charging network, leased/company-owned electric cabs and an easy-to-use app.
The company has also started intercity rides from Delhi-NCR to Jaipur & Chandigarh. BluSmart is offering MG ZS EV to its customers for intercity services.
BluSmart & Its Tie-Ups:
Karnataka State Government will soon grant license to BluSmart to commence electric bike taxis in Bengaluru. Apart from BluSmart, Bounce is the 2nd company poised to get the same license.
BluSmart has also joined hands with Truecaller to enable instant 1-tap and OTP-free verification/signup for new customers.
In July 2021, Tata Motors had launched the ‘Xpres-T’ electric sedan exclusively for fleet customers. Since then, the automaker has secured 23,000 orders. On World Environment Day (June 6) in 2022, Tata Motors signed an agreement with BluSmart to supply 10,000 Xpres-T electric cars! This is the largest EV fleet order in India! BluSmart had previously ordered 3500 Xpres-Ts in October 2021.
Apart from Tata Motors, BluSmart’s fleet also includes electric cars from MG Motors, Mahindra and BYD.
BluSmart has also tied-up with ‘Quiklyz’, the vehicle leasing brand of Mahindra. As part of this deal, Quiklyz will provide customised lease of 500 electric cars which will be inducted in BluSmart’s all-electric fleet. It is most likely that Mahindra eVerito cars will be provided as part of the deal.
The company has plans to expand to Mumbai, Pune & Hyderabad. There are plans to go international as well with Singapore & Hong Kong being considered!
With over 3000 cars, BluSmart has the largest fleet of electric cabs in India. The company has raised around $75 million from investors including British oil major BP’s investment arm ‘BP Ventures’, Alteria Capital, BlackSoil, etc. Actress Deepika Padukone is also an investor in BluSmart.
