800 km in a Day – My EV Journey from Noida to Ludhiana in the Mahindra XUV 9e

If you ever wondered whether an electric car can handle a long-distance journey in India, here’s my honest experience. I recently drove my Mahindra XUV 9e from Noida to Chandigarh to Ludhiana and back to Noida in a single day. I covered around 850 kilometres, and the trip went smoother than I expected.

Let me walk you through how I planned it, where I stopped to charge, and how much it cost me.

Starting the Trip

I left Noida early in the morning with 60% charge in my EV battery. My plan was simple. I would drive straight to Chandigarh, top up the battery there, head to Ludhiana, and then return to Noida.

The best part is that I did not feel any range anxiety because I already knew where I could charge along the way. That made a huge difference. If you don’t know where to charge, please use trip planners to identify stations along your route before you start your journey,

First Charging Stop – Chandigarh

By the time I reached Chandigarh, my battery had dropped to about 15%. I stopped at a DC fast charging station, HPCL Vishal and charged my XUV 9e from 15 to 85%. The charging session was quick and easy.

Later in the day, I headed to Ludhiana and then started my return journey toward Noida.

Second Charging Stop – Ambala

On the way back, I made a short stop at Ambala to top up the battery again. I only charged for around 15 minutes, just enough to comfortably reach home.

The charger I used was from ChargeZone. It was rated for 180 kilowatts, and my car was charging at a speed of 110 kilowatts, which was really impressive. Fast chargers like this are still not very common, but when you find one, it makes a big difference.

Total Distance and Stats

By the time I reached home, the trip meter showed 848.9 kilometres. Here’s what the trip stats looked like:

  • Distance covered: 848.9 km
  • Total time spent driving: 14 hours 18 minutes
  • Average speed: 59 km per hour
  • Efficiency: 7.4 kilometres per kilowatt hour
  • Final range when fully charged: 613 km
  • Battery size: 79 kWh

How Much Did The EV Trip Cost?

Now comes the most asked question — how much did this trip cost me?

I spent around ₹1,700 on charging during the entire journey. Considering I travelled 850 kilometres, the running cost comes to roughly ₹2 per kilometre. That’s far cheaper than what I would have spent on petrol or diesel for the same distance.

Was It Difficult?

Honestly, not at all. The key is to plan a little in advance using EV trip planner. I made sure I knew where the fast chargers were located and how much I needed to charge at each stop.

The XUV 9e performed really well. I kept the AC at a comfortable temperature throughout the journey, and I never had to slow down just to save battery.

My Takeaway

Doing 850 kilometres in a single day with an electric vehicle is very much possible. You don’t need to overthink it. All you need is a good EV, a little bit of planning, and access to reliable chargers.

This trip gave me the confidence to plan more long-distance EV drives. If I can do it, anyone can.

Thinking About a Long EV Trip?

If you are an EV owner or thinking about buying one, I would strongly suggest using an app like EVJoints. It helps you plan your route, shows where the charging stations are, and even estimates how much charge you will need for each leg of the trip.

Give it a try. It can make your EV journey simple and stress-free.
