Why I Bought the Mahindra XEV 9E
I have been working on a farm community near Kanpur for over five years. Every month I need to drive the 462 km from my home in Greater Noida to the farm.
When I chose my Mahindra XEV 9E, I picked the 79 kWh battery pack so I could reach the farm in one charge. Until now, I had not had the chance to test that claim, especially in the peak summer heat with the air‑conditioning on full blast.
Setting Out on June 13, 2025
Yesterday I set off from Greater Noida at 8 am with 92%t state of charge. It was already hot, and I knew the AC would be running the whole time. My passenger and I carried about 250 kg of gear, so the load felt like a small transport carrier. I wanted to see if I could truly cover 462 km before stopping to charge.
The Highway Run
Almost the entire trip was on highway. I joined the Yamuna Expressway and then the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. I kept a steady pace between 60 and 95 km per hour. The car’s cruise mode helped me stay smooth on the long straights. It took me about seven hours of driving without a charge stop. Thanks to the ADAS and cruise features, I was able to have my meals peacefully while the car was driving on the expressways. No need to pause—I simply enjoyed the journey.
Real‑World Range and Cost
When I reached my farm, just 30 km outside Kanpur, the battery showed 16%t state of charge. That means I used 76%t of my battery to drive 462 km. The Mahindra XEV 9E still had roughly 100 km of range left. In practical terms that shows I can cover over 550 km on a single charge, even in extreme heat and under heavy load.

I charge at home overnight, and this trip cost me about Rs 375 in electricity. At Rs 0.81 per km, the running cost is unbeatable compared to petrol.
Key Takeaways for EV Drivers and Fence Sitters
- Real range: Even with AC on full and extra weight you can easily hit 450 to 500 km. Under these conditions I proved over 550 km is possible.
- Cost savings: At under Rs 1 per km, you will save a lot compared to traditional fuel.
- Ease of driving: Cruise mode on expressways makes long runs relaxing.
- Confidence boost: If you worry about range anxiety, know that modern EVs like the XEV 9E exceed real world expectations.

I’m not the only one testing the limits of what an EV can do. One of my fellow EV owners recently completed a 2036 km road trip in his Mahindra XEV 9E from Gurgaon to Ujjain and back—and he did it confidently using just public charging stations along the way. You may want to check out that story too if you’re still unsure about taking your EV on long trips.
Final Thoughts
After this journey, I now say with confidence that the XEV 9E can handle long trips without a recharge. If you are hesitant to take your EV on a long run, give it a try. Plan your route, check your state of charge, and enjoy the smooth, quiet ride. Your next electric adventure may be closer than you think.
Real stories like these give confidence to EV owners who haven’t yet taken their cars on long trips, and help fence-sitters see what’s truly possible. If you’ve got an EV journey to share, we’d love to hear it! Drop us a message at admin@evjoints.com and become part of our growing EV community.
